Thom Robinson
Senior Talent Acquisition & HR Manager – BI:PROCSI - DELIVERYWhat do you do at BI:PROCSI?
I’m the person responsible for our hiring here at BI:PROCSI, helping us grow - We’ve got massive plans this year to, at least, treble in size so it’s a really exciting time for us as a business and a great challenge for me. I’m also learning the ropes on everything HR here, which is something I’m looking at continuing to grow into
What do you enjoy most about working here?
I really enjoy the hardworking culture here at BI:PROCSI, we’re all given a lot of flexibility and autonomy in our day but everyone here works incredibly hard in their roles, there’s no passengers, we’re all eager to learn, challenge ourselves and deliver.
What would you say sets this company apart from others you've worked for?
I think that the approach to growth and bettering ourselves is something that seems like it’s talked about in other companies but here it’s actually followed through on and delivered. The leadership team has been amazing in providing a, pretty much, unlimited training budget for everyone here across all areas and that means that people’s professional growth is really well looked after.
How would you describe the company culture?
The culture here is relaxed and friendly but as I mentioned, full of people that work really hard, I really believe that’s how the company has been so successful so quickly over the last few years. I think it’s also great to point out that we have a really culturally diverse team here too, in our small team we have a lot of different nationalities, something we’re very proud of.
How would you describe the work-life balance at this company?
The work-life balance here is fantastic. For me, avoiding a 3 hr+ commute daily means I feel I can accomplish so much more in a full day - we also get an early finish Friday which suits me perfectly as I can collect my daughter from school and start enjoying the weekend with her.
What kind of opportunities for growth and development have you had while working here?
I joined knowing that the first challenge and focus for me was going to be the busy hiring plans of the business first and I’ve really enjoyed tackling that and adding some amazing new faces to our team. It was always made clear to me that whilst this was going on though that I’d be busy ‘learning the ropes’ of the HR side of the business which is something that as time goes by I’m picking up more responsibilities and new skills.
How would you describe the management style?
The management style is one I really appreciate. There’s a great blend here of being relaxed but also of honesty and directness. There’s no micro-management or jargon or meetings for meeting's sake - if an issue needs to be addressed, it’s dealt with quickly with as little fuss as possible so as not to break up people’s workflow which I love.
What kind of benefits and perks does the company offer that you appreciate?
I really do appreciate the remote-first nature of the business - I can’t state enough what this does for my mental health. Whilst I love the team get-togethers, having the opportunity to take my daughter to school, go on lunchtime bike rides is an amazing perk that I’m very thankful for.
How would you describe the team dynamics and collaboration within the company?
Despite our work-from-home culture, everyone here is very collaborative and works very well together, there’s a lot of experience across the team so a lot of knowledge for people to tap into. From my side, I’ve been really impressed at just how quickly the team are at coming back and answering any questions I have about anything technical - there really is a sense that no question is considered stupid.
When you are not making hires for BI:PROCSI, what do you do for fun?
I try to keep really busy outside of work. I do lots of activities with my daughter such as camping and creative stuff like painting and model building, she’s a really creative little girl and I love that. I also make a lot of music and run a very small ambient music label called C(in)C tapes that has been a lot of fun and keeps my creative juices running. And I’m also a keen cyclist - I’m currently preparing for the London to Brighton bike ride to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation -
As we continue to scale, it definitely is an exciting time to join BI:PROCSI.
